Science and innovations are the basis for the development of a knowledge-based economy, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Sergei Chizhik said as he attended the opening ceremony of the TeMEx international industrial online expo, BelTA has learned.

“All of us understand that today science and innovations are the basis for the development of the knowledge-based economy. Only then our achievements can be competitive and we can look to the future with confidence. Belarusian scientists are happy to be taking part in the TeMEx online expo, because the Belarusian science is mostly result-oriented and we put a lot of effort in applied research and solutions that would benefit the country's economy,” Sergei Chizhik stressed.

The NASB helps almost all Belarusian ministries address sectoral problems and provides scientific support for strategic areas of development of the Belarusian social and economic model, he said. “The academy operates like an R&D corporation, controlling the whole process from developing an idea to putting finished solutions into use. We have a well-developed infrastructure for this purpose. The NASB has set up 22 sectoral laboratories in cooperation with Belarusian enterprises, for example, mechanical engineering companies. At the expo, we will demonstrate the results achieved by scientists alone and in cooperation with enterprises,” Sergei Chizhik said.

The NASB actively cooperates with foreign partners. “We have opened 42 international research centers and found partners in more than 100 countries. For example, today we will also unveil drones developed in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone,” he stressed.

“Our solutions facilitate the growth of the traditional sectors of the economy and lay the basis for the development of new ones: the space industry, biotechnology, IT, and other interesting and promising fields,” Sergei Chizhik added.

Organizations affiliated with the NASB are demonstrating their latest solutions and products at the TeMEx international industrial online expo in such areas as drone development, innovative mechanical engineering, the mining industry, biotechnology, technologies for environmental protection and food safety, and so on.

The TeMEx international industrial online expo will be running through 14 January 2021 under the auspices of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and with the support of the Belarusian Industry Ministry, the NASB, sectoral ministries, and Belarusian embassies. Industry ministries, scientific institutions, chambers of commerce and industry, and business unions of several other countries have also contributed to the organization of the event.
