Migrants' assaults and violence that took place in Germany in the night of 1 January will trigger an appropriate response from politicians and the public, Director General of BelKP-PRESS Galina Malishevskaya said during the Club of Editors program aired on the Belarus One TV channel on 17 January, BelTA has learned.

According to witnesses, on New Year's Eve around 1,000 men arrived at Cologne's railway station and started sexually assaulting and robbing women. Similar incidents with the involvement of young people mainly of Arab and South-African looks were registered in other German cities, including Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt am Main and Bielefeld.

The first reaction of the German police to these events was too calm and restrained, Galina Malishevskaya believes. "They did not act as they were supposed to in such a situation. Most likely this was due to a certain political vision which we see today in Germany,” the expert noted. “But the next election, I think, will show an absolute sway the other way: "the right-wing" will be gaining points. People will respond to the events. This will show in the next local elections. The politicians and all other government entities will also have to respond. By the way, the reaction will be quite clear. Nobody wants to have his house disrespected,” she noted.

The participants in the discussion drew attention to the important fact: the punishment for the violence against women on the New Year's Eve in Germany will be much softer and more liberal than that in the Arab countries. Therefore, such situations may well repeat soon, Galina Malishevskaya believes.
