People's welfare depends on performance of enterprises, Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik said as he met with OAO Mozyrsalt employees, BelTA has learned.

The governor noted that the real sector of the region's economy aims to achieve the set goals and rates. “The results of the first quarter show positive dynamics,” Vladimir Dvornik said. He pointed out that meetings with employees help determine ways of developing their enterprises. “The higher the plant's production level is, the higher the people's living standards are. This also helps develop social sphere, improve public utilities,” the governor added.

He said that Gomel Oblast accounts for 22% of Belarus' industrial production. The industry is developing: a cellulose factory in Svetlogorsk is gaining momentum, Petrikov mining and processing plant is gearing up to manufacture its first products.

OAO Mozyrsalt also shows progress. “Only few Belarusian manufactures have their own raw materials. Others have to buy up to 95% of raw materials. A reasonable approach which includes efficient organization of sales and cutting expenses will allow steady work and growth,” Vladimir Dvornik believes.

OAO Mozyrsalt was founded as a salt evaporation plant which was reorganized into a public joint-stock company in 1997. For the last five years, the plant has been implementing a large-scale investment project to renovate its facilities and increase production capacity to 480,000 tonnes of salt a year. “Over 80% of the output is exported. The plant is working at its full capacity and offers a broad range of products,” the company's Director General Artur Galimov noted.
