Enabling online video coverage of polling stations would be pointless, BelTA learned from Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina.

The head of the Belarusian election organization agency believes that the cost of broadcasting video during the day and beyond would greatly exceed the effect the endeavor could achieve. “In essence, a very small number of people watch this kind of news from polling stations. For instance, those related to mass media,” noted Lidia Yermoshina.

“The general view of the polling station cannot allow one to see properly what is going on at the table. Only the sequence of actions taken by the election commission can be observed but online broadcasting cannot catch the details. And details are what it is all about. Would anyone count the number of people, who have come to this specific polling station? Observers could take care of that,” concluded Lidia Yermoshina.
