Paratroopers are a brotherhood based on courage, bravery, and honor, Chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev said on 2 August during the meeting to mark the 85th anniversary of the airborne forces and the special operations forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, BelTA has learned.
“The airborne forces have left their mark on the lives of all its servicemen. To be a paratrooper means more than to serve in the army. For many young people tested by the sky and the earth, the airborne forces have become a brotherhood based on courage, bravery, and honor,” Nikolai Sherstnev stressed.
He emphasized that the Belarusian Armed Forces are proud of the 103rd guards airborne division. Paratroopers from Vitebsk took part in all large-scale military trainings organized by the Armed Forces of Belarus and the joint Belarus-Russia Zapad 2009 (West 2009) and Zapad 2013 (West 2013) strategic exercises. “The 103rd guards independent mobile brigade are getting ready to land at the North Pole,” Nikolai Sherstnev noted.
Paratroopers do not only work to enhance their permanent combat readiness, but also greatly contribute to the military and patriotic education of young people. They regularly celebrate Days of Conscripts, Open Doors Day and other sports and cultural events. Members of the airborne services maintain close relations with veterans and preserve their traditions.
Finally, Nikolai Sherstnev thanked the soldiers for their loyalty to their country and readiness to defend its interests at any moment. “I hope your blue berets will always be a symbol of peaceful sky. The motto ‘Nobody but us!’ always inspires us to serve our country,” Nikolai Sherstnev noted.
Partaking in the meeting in Victory Square were soldiers of the103rd guards independent mobile brigade, representatives of the Defense Ministry of Belarus, local authorities, clergy, representatives of public associations, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the Armed Forces.
The Paratroopers' Day celebration program also featured performances by soldiers of the mobile brigade and guards of honor, a concert by a military orchestra, and parachute jumps.
Victory Square also hosted an exhibition of military vehicles, equipment and military uniforms from different historical periods.
