The speech of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko at the plenary session of the UN Sustainable Development Summit reflected the national interests of the country, Vadim Karasev, the director of the Institute for Global Strategies (Ukraine), said in an interview with the ONT TV Channel, BelTA has learned.
“The Belarusian President was speaking from the point of view of the national interests of the country, as Belarus is performing the role of a peacekeeper in this conflict. Naturally, the Belarusian capital city and diplomats are at the epicenter of the diplomatic efforts aimed at settling the conflict in Donbas. The truce is extremely fragile, and this was the focus of Alexander Lukashenko's speech,” Vadim Karasev said.
The political expert pointed out that if there is no comprehensive settlement to the Ukraine conflict, it will continuously generate factors and sources of instability in Ukraine and the neighboring states.
For his part, director of the Center for Strategic and Foreign Policy Studies Arseny Savitsky stressed that there are certain problems in the world. These are, for example, the crisis of international law and international institutions that maintain peace and security on the global scale. “The main message of the Belarusian leader was for the international community to join the efforts in searching for ways to resolve these crises that, no doubt, hurt everyone,” Arseny Savitsky added.
