Minsk is growing into an influential platform for dialogue, Sergei Rakhmanov, Chairman of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic, told the media on the sidelines of the international conference European Security: Stepping Back from the Brink on 8 October, BelTA has learned.
“Belarus is growing into an influential platform for dialogue where experts from different countries with different stances can exchange views and try to work out some solutions that would contribute to stability in Europe and the world as a whole,” said Sergei Rakhmanov.
According to him, Belarus is making significant efforts to organize such a dialogue, and can already boast some successes. “We see some positive trends. We in no way deviate from our agreements on strategic cooperation with the Russian Federation. We are looking for options to mitigate the tension in the relations between Russia and the West,” the senator said.
He noted, however, that not all representatives of the Western community respond to Belarus' proposals, while accusations against Russia continue to be voiced at the dialogue platform.
“Today Belarus welcomes a lot of MPs from the countries which have not paid such visits to the country before. We engage in frank negotiations with them and express our point of view. Not being a global power, Belarus plays an increasingly important role in such contacts, discussions and dialogues. This trend needs to be continued. We will make every effort to do so,” Sergei Rakhmanov added.
