Macron's comment on Russia being China's vassal is a Freudian slip

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was asked to comment on French President Macron's comment about Russia becoming China's vassal at a press conference after the talks with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik in Moscow on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

"I see Mr Macron's comment about Russia's becoming vassal to China as a Freudian slip. As we say ‘He who has a hurt, keeps talking about it'. For several years Mr Macron has been proclaiming a policy of the EU's strategic autonomy. His is a lonely voice. It is perfectly clear to everyone that the United States will not allow the European Union to have a strategic autonomy, or any kind of autonomy.

For example, back in August last year Mr Macron's economy minister complained that in the wake of the U.S. actions in the context of anti-Russian sanctions and the EU's falling in line with the U.S. illegitimate policy, energy for European business became four times more expensive than for business in the United States. This led to the deindustrialization of Europe, the relocation of business from Europe overseas and many more things," the minister said.

Long before the special military operation in Ukraine, the United States set on a strategic course to reorient the European Union from cheap energy from Russia to expensive one from the United States. "This goal has been achieved," Sergey Lavrov stated.

"Probably Mr Macron is unhappy that all his calls for strategic autonomy have, in fact, turned into complete subordination of the European Union as a vassal to the United States. If we apply the Freudian theory, he projects his grievances onto the relations between the countries that retain self-respect, independence and that seek exclusively equal cooperation, like the one between Russia and China, between Russia and Belarus," the minister said.
