Local fuels are a major source of economic and energy security for Belarus, Belarus' Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said while on a working visit to Gomel Oblast, BelTA has learned.

This source, according to the head of government, should be fully utilized, taking into account the economic feasibility considerations. As an example, the Prime Minister cited the Rechitsa mini-CHP plant which he visited on 14 October. “This is an efficient company that uses virtually no natural gas, just peat briquettes and wood chips. All the year round it provides necessary volumes of heat and electricity to quite a large area of the town of Rechitsa,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

The mini CHP plant produces 4.2MW of electricity and 19.6 MW of heat. In 2015, thanks to the use of local fuels, the plant saved the equivalent of 10.2 million cubic meters of natural gas.

The positive experience of this company needs to be replicated in other regions, the Prime Minister told reporters. “In general, there are quite a few examples of good use of local fuels in the country. Each of them is unique, and therefore those who are planning to implement a project, have the opportunity to select the best option to maximize the use of local fuels,” the Prime Minister said.

Andrei Kobyakov is visiting Gomel Oblast to see how the head of state's instructions are implemented. Among them are decree No. 253 of 4 July 2016 on the measures for financial recovery of agricultural organizations, use of local fuel and progress in woodworking projects.
