Ecology is a goal-directed component of the economic development of Belarus, Belarus’ First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Iya Malkina said at the fifth round of the Eastern Partnership ministerial-level dialogue in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
"Belarus’ economic development relies on the principles of sustainable development. The linchpin of the national sustainable development strategy by 2030 is the integration of the economic, social and environmental dimensions. For us ecology is a goal-directed component of the economic development,” said Iya Malkina.
According to her, Belarus is very interested in developing the green economy and sees it as an important instrument for ensuring the sustainable development and environmental policy. The country has developed a system of measures to strengthen the technological capacity of the national economy to ensure its functioning on environmental principles.
"We believe that the policy towards ‘the greening’ is an important factor that could stimulate the development of national economies in a period of global economic crisis, and that could ensure sales markets. There is a need to assimilate the sustainable patterns of production and consumption, the practice of ‘green’ purchases,” said Iya Malkina.
The First Deputy Minister noted that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Protection in cooperation with the UNDP began working on the international technical assistance project, which donor is the EU. It aims to develop and test the principles of green economy in the country, and to demonstrate the economically and ecologically successful initiatives to the Belarusian society and the business community.
On 29 June Minsk is hosting the fifth round of Informal Ministerial Dialogue of the countries-participants of the Eastern Partnership Initiative which includes two components: a ministerial meeting on the environment issues and a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the EaP countries-participants.
The Informal Ministerial Dialogue of the countries-participants of the Eastern Partnership at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and heads of other ministries were first held in 2012. The main goal is to provide a regular platform for an open exchange of views on the topical issues of the EaP and the issues on the international agenda.
