In Parliament we need people who enjoy respect in the society, Chairperson of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina said at the opening of the BRSM Youth Union's project “Dialogue of Generations” held as part of the Flower of Great Victory campaign on 3 June, BelTA has learned.

“I think that everyone should achieve success in his profession. But being a member of parliament is not a profession. It is a high public position. Our parliament should be made up of people who have achieved something in their life, known in the society and enjoy respect,” Lidia Yermoshina noted.

“For a young person with little life and working experience, to get into the parliament means a broken life after four years of parliamentary service, if he is not re-elected. He has missed career opportunities in his profession, and he did not aim for anything while being in parliament. He will not be appointed to a ministerial post because he is not yet a professional,” Lidia Yermoshina said.

The CEC chairwoman stated that before getting into parliament a young person should grow professionally first, and become the best in his profession, industry, region. “Then the doors to the parliament will be open for him. Then there will be a chance to become a minister,” she added.

The parliamentary elections in Belarus have been scheduled for 11 September 2016.
