The Belarus-China industrial park Great Stone may become a model of high-quality development within the Belt and Road initiative, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Xie Fuzhan said at the conference Belt and Road Initiative and the Construction of the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone, BelTA has learned.

“The China-Belarus Industrial Park is a product of bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation of the new epoch to promote regional economic integration. The park is similar to traditional industrial zones. It is also has its own innovative sides and is an example to develop regional economic cooperation. It can surely set a model of high-quality development within the Belt and Road project,” Xie Fuzhan said.

In his words, proceeding from mutual interests, the governments of the two states set up in Belarus the biggest zone of trade and economic cooperation between China and other states. “Based on multilateral cooperation in trade, economic, production, sci-tech and other sectors, the China-Belarus Industrial Park linked harmoniously the countries of the Eurasian region and became an economic cornerstone in protecting the evolvement of the region,” Xie Fuzhan said.

In his words, Belarus is a staunch supporter and participant of the Belt and Road initiative, within the framework of which the two countries have already made considerable headway. In 2014, the parties signed a protocol of cooperation to implement the Silk Road Economic Belt project. In 2015, the parties signed an agreement on friendly relations and a joint declaration to strengthen the relations of comprehensive strategic partnership. In 2016, the leaders of the two countries signed a joint declaration to establish the relations of trust-based comprehensive strategic partnership and mutually beneficial cooperation. The parties also signed a roadmap of measures to promote the joint implementation of the Belt and Road initiative.

“Although being land-locked, Belarus has already become a transport, logistics and trading hub on the Eurasian continent thanks to its involvement in the Belt and Road project and the China-Europe rail transportation routes,” the president of the Chinese Academy of Social Studies said.
