Fuelling of the Russia-Turkey conflict is dangerous and harmful to both countries, Vladimir Pertsov, the director of the representative office of the interstate TV and radio company Mir in Belarus, said in the evening TV show Editors' Club on the Belarus 1 TV Channel on 6 December, BelTA has learned.

“The purpose of the downing of the Russian fighter jet is unclear. Why throwing sparks into the fire while the international situation is deteriorating and the smell of powder is in the air on different matters, especially in this region,” Vladimir Pertsov noted.

In his words, further fanning of the conflict and stirring of tensions will only do harm. “These are two large countries. They are interconnected by economic and other ties, and this (the conflict – BelTA's note) will bring no good either to Turkey, or Russia,” the media expert believes.

The Russian aircraft Su-24 was shot down by a Turkish F-16 fighter jet on 24 November. Turkey claimed that the downed plane violated its airspace. The Russian Ministry of Defense stressed that the Su-24 bomber did not cross the Syria-Turkey border saying that the Turkish jet violated Syrian airspace. One of the pilots was shot dead, the other was rescued as a result of a 12-hour operation.
