Members of the parliament, who have been elected for the first time, will give a new impulse to legislative efforts. Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidia Yermoshina made the statement during the opening ceremony of the first session of the sixth-convocation House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 11 October, BelTA has learned.
Lidia Yermoshina reminded that a total of 110 people have been elected to the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament. She briefly described the new composition of the House of Representatives. The new parliament inherited 27 MPs from the previous convocation. The fact will allow preserving continuity in the parliament's work. “The MPs, who have been elected for the first time, constitute the majority. They will give a new impulse to legislative efforts,” believes the head of the Belarusian election organization agency.
Lidia Yermoshina went on saying that there are 38 women in the new House of Representatives or 34.5% of the total number of MPs. The fact testifies to the society's desire to increase the involvement of women in the handling of matters of national importance, noted the official.
Apart from that, Belarusian political parties are now better represented in the parliament. As many as 16 MPs are members of five political parties.
