The European Union should be unbiased and constructive in its criticism of Belarus, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing on 27 October.
Dmitry Mironchik commented on the recent session of the European Parliament that discussed the situation in Belarus. “We think it is important that the session heard not only traditional critical comments and remarks, but also some positive opinions about the developments in the social and political life in Belarus and the progress in the relations between Belarus and the European Union. As you know, Belarus seeks to improve its relations with the EU and its bodies, including the European Parliament. The relations should be built on the principles of equality and partnership. And we believe that criticism expressed towards Belarus should be unbiased and constructive,” Dmitry Mironchik said.
The spokesman expressed hope that the European Parliament's resolution on Belarus to be issued in November 2016 will be balanced and will take into account the country's approaches to full normalization of the relations with the European Union and development of a good neighborly dialogue.
Dmitry Mironchik added that Minsk will host ministerial consultations that will discuss cooperation between the countries of the CIS and the European Union, NATO and matters of European security on 1 and 2 November. Specifically, they will consider the trade and economic impact of the agreements on association and deep and comprehensive free trade areas with the European Union signed by Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine on the free trade zone of the CIS. Among other things, the consultations will consider EU's approaches to the implementation of the Eastern Partnership policy in the post-Soviet space and give a general assessment of the bilateral cooperation among the CIS and EU member states. The policy of the European Union in Central Asia will also be discussed.
