All economic transformations should be well planned and carefully considered keeping in mind protection of people's interests, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Mikhail Orda said commenting on the outcomes of the Big Conservation with the President, BelTA learned from the press service of the federation.
“The most important thing for trade unions was the assurance that Belarus will not resort to radical reforms in the form of indiscriminate shutdown of companies and ill-considered privatization. We absolutely share this position and believe that economic transformations should be carefully considered keeping in mind protection of people's interests,” he noted.
Top on the agenda were employment, increase in earnings and pension benefits, development prospects for state-run and private companies, in particular, in the regions and small towns. According to Mikhail Orda, unfortunately, there are regions where salaries and wages are below the country's average and unemployment is an issue.
“The head of state was absolutely right saying that everything is in place in the country to enable everyone start or grow their business. Another thing is how these business opportunities are translated into practice. Local authorities should clearly see region-specific development prospects and priorities. Every region should have a roadmap to facilitate their growth. This will help avoid unnecessary competition and give an impetus to the manufacturing industry. This way, local authorities will be able to better plan retraining and advanced training programs for local workforce that will have a better understanding of what kinds of business are particularly relevant today,” Mikhail Orda said.
In his view, such formats as the Big Conversation with the President are so valuable because they offer a frank and meaningful discussion of a broad range of issues.
