Many Belarusian citizens decide to cast their ballots in early voting, Sergei Lebedev, the head of the CIS observation mission, said as he visited polling stations in the agro town of Ozertso on 9 October, BelTA has learned.
“The early voting in Belarus is calm and well-organized, the turnout is high. At some polling sites the figure reaches 7-8% and even 15%,” Sergei Lebedev noted.
He emphasized that the criticism of early voting is ungrounded. “This practice is widely used in the world. It is an alternative for those who are unable to vote on the election day,” Sergei Lebedev said.
He also pointed out that when CIS observers visit polling stations, they make recommendations. In most cases, they are related to technicalities like placement of information materials.
