The statement Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev made on natural gas deliveries during the latest session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Bishkek contradicts interests of allied and good neighborly relations between Belarus and Russia, BelTA learned from the Russian expert, Doctor of Political Science Alexei Binetsky on 9 March.
The expert stated that the number of Russia's important geostrategic allies is low — Belarus in the west, Kazakhstan in the east, and Armenia in the south. “Such a statement contradicts interests of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. It contradicts interests of allied and good neighborly relations,” remarked Alexei Binetsky.
Speaking about prices for natural gas and oil, the expert reminded that in his speech in Bishkek instead of hinting Dmitry Medvedev said plainly that the prices Belarus pays can be raised up to the European level. “But nobody knows what the European prices are because the contract Gazprom and Ruhrgas signed many years ago is an absolute secret,” said Alexei Binetsky. “Besides, prices for oil and natural gas don't depend on the amount of oil and gas in the pipe. Nobody knows precisely how much oil and gas there is in the pipe. The price depends on other factors, mainly political ones.”
