The development of cultural ties of Belarus and Cuba will bring the two nations closer, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Cuba to Belarus Gerardo Suarez Alvarez told BelTA after signing the agreement on cooperation between the Belarusian Culture Ministry and the Cuban Culture Ministry.

"Belarus and Cuba have rich cultural scenarios and that is why it is rather important for our nations to know as much as possible about the most important events. In my opinion, it is important to fix the problem of the lack of information on cultural events of the countries. Today there is also a lack of cooperation, individual initiatives of the sides. We need to find ways to implement the agreement despite a great distance between our countries and some financial difficulties. The implementation of the agreement will allow the nations of Belarus and Cuba to take a closer look at each other's culture," the ambassador said.

Representatives of Cuba took part in the international film festival Listapad and the international art festival Slavianski Bazaar, Gerardo Suarez Alvarez said. But these are solitary examples. There are new generations of musicians and artists in Cuba, which are not well known in Belarus.

It is also important to acquaint Cuba's nation with Belarusian culture and new names. For example, the world famous International Havana Book Fair has a tradition of nominating one country as a guest of honor. “We would like to see Belarus in such a role in the near future,” the ambassador said.

Cooperation in the sphere of cinema and music looks promising. It is interesting to develop relationships in the theater sphere and museum and exhibition activities as well.
