Decent work is a great value and the right of every person, Belarus' Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich told the media during the Labor Day celebrations in Minsk on 1 May, BelTA has learned.

“Decent work is a great value and the right of every human being. With regards to the labor market we must, first of all, provide jobs, decent wages,” Irina Kostevich said. Positive dynamics is expected in these sectors this year, the minister added.

Addressing the event in Victory Park, Irina Kostevich noted: “A working man! That has a proud sound! It does not matter in what area we work: whether we perform high-tech operations, raise children or man the machine. All our efforts are for the benefit and prosperity of the country.” On the occasion of 1 May, Irina Kostevich also extended congratulations to the labor veterans.

The 1 May story is inextricably linked to the trade union movement. The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus is a strong union of professionals representing the interests of more than 4 million members.

The events dedicated to the Labor Day – 1 May in Minsk began with a wreath-laying at the Minsk Hero City Stele and continued in Victory Park. The events were attended by about 10,000 people.
