Calls not to pay bills will destroy the social security system

Calls not to pay bills will destroy the social security system, BelTA learned from Aleksei Avdonin, an analyst with the Belarusian Institute of Strategic Research (BISR).

Aleksei Avdonin said: “Calls for a virtual economic blockade of Belarus is a tactic that has been used in other color revolutions in various parts of the world. Such calls are designed to destabilize the work of the economy (consumption of goods and services inside the country) and thus reduce tax revenues. As a result, it will prevent the state from honoring its social commitments before pensioners, social service facilities. It needs to be understood that such calls are always negative not only here and now. They fully destroy the entire state social support system, including pensions, schools, and healthcare institutions.”

The expert noted that in other countries such calls can result in imprisonment for up to 5-10 years.

In his words, before acting upon such calls one should think about how these actions will affect the person's wallets and the person's future later on. “Failures to pay will always result in penalties and may go as far as the seizure of the apartment if the sum of unpaid bills exceeds a certain threshold. The situation is the same with taxes. Failures to pay taxes may result in the prohibition to leave the country, the revoking of the driver's license, and many other legal sanctions. This is why before acting upon these ‘recommendations' people should read the law and recognize that it is purely a political manipulation that can result in very serious economic consequences for the person's budget,” Aleksei Avdonin explained.
