We will never pay serious attention to these pieces of paper, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives, Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus Oleg Gaidukevich told journalists commenting on the recent European Parliament's resolution, BelTA has learned.
“We have seen yet another example of double standards, a violation of international law on the part of members of the so-called European Parliament,” Oleg Gaidukevich said. “They do not condemn the attempted terrorist attack in Machulishchi, they do not try to put an end to the war, they do not slam attempts to create terrorist organizations on the territory of Poland that openly call for overthrowing Belarus' government, for killing children and the elderly. We see another statement that represents interference in the internal affairs of Belarus. They make judgments about our court rulings, they reject the laws adopted by the Belarusian parliament although these laws reflect the will of our people. They actually support the idea to drag our country into the war. If you look at the essence of their statement, you will see that their dissatisfaction boils down to one thing – Belarus has not got involved in the war with Ukraine, while they want us to get embroiled faster. They want the Belarusians to die, they want terrorist attacks here, extremism. Something that is not happening here,” he said.
This is exactly what the West does not like, the MP specified. “We remember that this is not the first time they act like this. We remember very well how they justified the terrorists who carried out terrorist attacks on the territory of Russia. We remember very well that there was not a single statement condemning the terrorist attacks on the territory of Belarus and Russia. They say that Avtukhovich, for example, was sentenced illegally. This man was convicted for attempts to commit terrorist attacks, though he is a hero for them,” the parliamentarian stressed.
“We abide by the law religiously,” added Oleg Gaidukevich. “Therefore, we call on the whole world to have a look at this resolution, scrutinize it, and understand that it is a byword for double standards. We are ready for dialogue, but on an equal footing. They should not teach us and violate international law. It is high time for the European Parliament to understand - these resolutions are pieces of paper that we are going to disregard. We will do what the Belarusian people want us to do. We are a sovereign, independent state,” the MP added.
