Belarus' sustainable development is impossible without the innovative economy, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Guminsky said at the international conference held at the Academy of Public Administration under the aegis of the Belarus President on 20 November to discuss the role of public administration in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, BelTA has learned.

“It is now clear that Belarus' further sustainable development is impossible without the innovative economy relying on the high level of public administration,” Viktor Guminsky said.

Apart from that, he said that it is important today to decide what methods to use to raise the quality and efficiency of public administration in the complicated period. In this context, it is especially important to raise the professional level of high-ranking officials and enhance their personal responsibility for the results of work. A modern leader has profound knowledge, competence, skills and experience of efficient management, personal responsibility for the success of the whole team. Modern civil servants should have these and other qualities, Viktor Guminsky added.

The conference is attended by Belarusian MPs, high-ranking officials of ministries and agencies, representatives of the UNDP and NGOs. The forum is held by the Academy of Public Administration in association with the UNDP and is a final stage of the UN initiative UN70 Belarus Express for Sustainable Development Goals. As part of the initiative a train with experts and representatives of the UN system was on a journey throughout Belarus. They attended film sessions, seminars, exhibitions, concerts, and other events.
