Belarus needs to make a wider use of its cultural heritage to attract more tourists, Belarusian Culture Minister Boris Svetlov told journalists on 11 November as he attended the international forum Traditional Culture as a Strategic Resource for Sustainable Development of the Society held in Mogilev from 11 through 13 November, BelTA has learned.

According to Boris Svetlov, for decades the state has heavily invested in the national cultural heritage, including the recovery and restoration of the history and culture sites, architecture specimens. “We have the Castles of Belarus program, other programs and subprograms which are designed to help preserve both tangible and intangible cultural heritage of Belarus,” Boris Svetlov said.

"We need to use this legacy to drum up the interest of visitors in the country, individual regions and territories. When money is invested somewhere, it is expected to return, maybe even in larger amounts. Therefore, a mechanism for using tourist technologies to interpret our cultural heritage, its revival, preservation and popularization is very promising in our joint activities with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism,” said Boris Svetlov.
