Belarus is one of the CIS' pivotal countries in the promotion of integration processes, Russia's permanent representative in statutory and other bodies of the CIS Andrei Shvedov told reporters on 12 January, BelTA informs.

Andrei Shvedov stressed that the Belarusian side pays much attention to the operation of the CIS. “Belarus is one the pivotal countries of the Commonwealth in the promotion of our integration processes,” the permanent representative said.

He stressed that Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei attended the session of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council on 12 January. “First of all, I view it as a testimony to the big attention of the Belarusian government to the Commonwealth and to its work,” Andrei Shvedov said. He added that it is important for the council to listen to the opinion of the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the operation of the CIS and its tasks.

This is the first session of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council in 2017. It is focused on the prospects of the CIS' legal framework in 2017, the efforts of the CIS Education Cooperation Council in the formation of the common education space in the Commonwealth. Besides, permanent plenipotentiaries should approve an action plan for 2017.
