Belarus is calmly and confidently overcoming the complicated economic situation, BelTA learned from Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov on 16 December.

“The situation on foreign markets is getting even worse, nevertheless, the resistance of the Belarusian economy is nothing like the one registered in December 2014 when negative trends were observed on the consumer market. External processes are obvious, but you can see that we are calmly and confidently dealing with the situation. People see that our economic, monetary management, and financial policy is now predictable,” noted Andrei Kobyakov. He stated that the measures being taken do not suit everyone, the government hears the critical remarks and tries to respond to them. “We are doing our best in the current situation without tossing sound economic sense out of the window. In other words, we are doing what we believe possible and necessary at a given moment,” explained the Prime Minister.

Andrei Kobyakov stated that the government is not completely satisfied with the national economy's performance in January-November 2015. “We tried to do our best but the situation remains complicated on the domestic market and foreign ones. Nevertheless, not everything we planned has panned out. This is why there is some feeling of dissatisfaction, but it doesn't mean we have given up or have lost our ambitions with regard to future plans,” stressed the Belarusian head of government.

On 16 December Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed decree No. 488 to appoint Andrei Kobyakov prime minister. In line with paragraph 6, article 84 of the Constitution the appointment of Andrei Kobyakov as the prime minister will have to be approved by the House of Representatives of the National Assembly.
