Baby stork chosen as mascot for FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – A baby stork has been announced as an official mascot for the 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup, Executive Director of the Belarusian Basketball Federation Anastasia Marinina said at a meeting in BelTA's press center on 14 June.

The mascot has been designed by Malvina Company in cooperation with the Belarusian Basketball Federation and FIBA Europe.

According to the executive director, the stork is an unofficial symbol of Belarus, a symbol of happiness and wellbeing.

“According to the organizers of the championship, it is a baby stork that reflects the essence of the U17 tournament. For many girls these are the first big competitions in their careers. We hope that fans, guests and participants of the tournament will like our mascot,” Anastasia Marinina said.

Ahead of the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup, the Belarusian national U17 basketball team will take part in the International Semyon Khalipsky Memorial Tournament, scheduled for 15-17 June in Minsk, make part of a tournament in France and also play against basketball teams of Latvia, Lithuania ad New Zealand.

At the 2018 FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup the Belarusian U17 team (head coach Viktoria Datsun) will play in Group A against Colombia (21 July), Japan (22 July) and France (24 July).
