Statistical offices of some countries have reported a considerable increase in unemployment amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Unemployment rate* per country (as of September 2020):

Spain – 16.5%

Lithuania – 9.8%

Italy – 9.6%

Latvia – 8.4%

Finland – 8.3%

the USA – 7.9%

Portugal – 7.7%

Slovakia – 6.8%.

According to Belarus' National Statistics Committee, 4,313,500 people were employed in the Belarusian economy as of September 2020. The unemployment rate was at 4%**.

Ensuring effective employment is an important aspect of the Belarusian social policy.
