There are 5.1 million women in Belarus, which accounts for 53.8% of the country's population.*

Average age – 43.1 years

urban dwellers – 41.9 years

rural dwellers – 47.3 years.

Today, women account for half of the country's workforce

Average employment rate for working-age women –79.5%.

Breakdown of female employment by sector

healthcare and social services – 85.6%

education – 81.3%

finance and insurance – 75.2%

HoReCa - 71.1%,

wholesale and retail trade, auto and motorcycle services – 69.1%

art, sport, entertainment and recreation - 65%

public administration – 56.3%

science and technology 55.7%

information and communication – 43.8%

manufacturing – 41.5%

agriculture, forestry, fishery – 39.2%

transport, warehousing, postal and courier services – 35.8%

construction – 18.5%.

Over one third of Belarusian women in employment have diplomas of higher education.

In 2019, over 62,700 women got married, more than 1,000 of them at the age of over 60.

The average age at first marriage was 26.1 years.

87,600 women became mothers.
