
Belarus' higher education is represented by:
51 higher education institutions (42 public and 9 private ones);
268,100 students (117,500 government-sponsored students and 150,600 fee-paying students);
20,300 teachers (roughly 13 students per one teacher).
In 2018/19 some 58,900 students were enrolled (26,300 government-sponsored students and 32,500 fee-paying students); 64,900 students graduated.
The most popular majors in the 2018/19 academic year were:
communications; law; economics; management; economics and production management - 30.8%
engineering – 20.8%
teaching – 9%
agriculture and forestry; landscape gardening – 9%
healthcare – 7.6%
Number of graduates coming under the mandatory work placement requirement in 2018 was 19,300. Of them 99.9% got a mandatory job offer, 0.1% were entitled to their own choice of employer.
Number of foreign students at Belarusian higher education institutions is 16,700, including students from:
Turkmenistan – 47.8%
China – 10.2%
Russia – 8.7%
