Belarus: Number of students

International Students' Day, one of the most popular youth holidays, is celebrated every year on 17 November.

There are about 260,900 university students in Belarus, 93.7% of them attend state-run universities*.

There are 51 institutions of higher education in the country, of which

State-run:

universities - 31

academies - 9

institutes – 2

Privately-held:

universities - 3

institutes - 6.

Belarus' largest universities are:

Belarusian State University (BSU) – 22,800

Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) – 21,100

Belarusian State Economic University (BSEU) – 14,600

Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics – 12,600

Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno – 11,100 students.

Belarusian universities train specialists in 15 majors, more than 400 specialties.

Students by major (in % to the total number of students):

Communication. Law. Economy. Management. Economy and industry engineering - 29.9%

Technology. Architecture and construction - 25.7%

Health. Social welfare. Physical culture. Tourism and hospitality – 11.2%

Art and design. Humanities. Natural sciences - 10.9%

Pedagogy. Vocational education - 9.8%

Agriculture and forestry. Garden and park landscaping - 8.7%

Others - 3.8%.
