MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan intend to start implementing the project to set up a joint cluster for cotton processing in 2019, BelTA learned from Nikolai Yefimchik, Chairman of the Belarusian state light industry concern Bellegprom, on 11 December.
The official said: “The project is nearly ready for implementation. It is in a preparatory stage because there are a number of matters in mutual obligations of the sides that need to be addressed. I think we will clarify all the points soon. The final decision will be made and we will get down to implementing the project early next year. I am talking about participation in a vertically integrated structure, the likes of which are being very vigorously created by the Uzbek side. In other words, in addition to the joint enterprise to process cotton and make yarn and fabric we envisage cotton farming as well.”
The official stressed that the project is rather complicated, this is why time is needed to do everything right. “The work proceeds very actively. All the sides are interested in it,” added Nikolai Yefimchik.
Based in Baranovichi, Brest Oblast, the cotton fabric manufacturer Blakit is supposed to become the key player from the Belarusian side.
BelTA reported earlier the proposal to process cotton together was made by the Uzbek side when the presidents of Belarus and Uzbekistan met in Tashkent in September 2018.
