Work in progress on long-term strategy to attract foreign investments to Belarus

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – A strategy on attracting foreign direct investments till 2025 is being developed in Belarus. First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin made the statement during the parliamentary hearings held on 14 November to discuss the legal and practical aspects of improvement of Belarus' investment climate, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, the Belarusian government is working together with World Bank experts on a strategy on attracting FDI into the country for the period till 2025. The document will stipulate measures to improve the investment and business climate. It will also evaluate the regulatory and administrative barriers standing in the way of investments.

The work of major foreign investors in Belarus confirms the positive dynamics of development of the investment climate and the liberalization of business processes. “A number of new projects are in the pipeline. I am convinced that this systemic work will go on in a calm and measured manner,” stressed Alexander Turchin.

The parliamentary hearings are supposed to result in recommendations on improving the investment climate. The government will study them in detail and will take them into account as the relevant legislation is adjusted.
