Vice speaker: Belarus consistently working to increase share of e-vehicles

SMOLEVICHI DISTRICT, 15 July (BelTA) - Systemic work is underway in Belarus to increase the share of electric vehicles, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, the national coordinator for the Sustainable Development Goals Anatoly Isachenko said as he attended the E-Transport Day in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, BelTA has learned.

“In Belarus, systematic work has been underway to develop automated transportation process management systems, to improve the level of informatization of the transport complex, to increase the electrification of railways and to increase the share of electric vehicles. All this creates a comfortable living environment for our citizens and is at the heart of the smart city concept,” Anatoly Isachenko noted.

According to him, the widespread use of green technologies based on energy and resource conservation ensures the development of the economy without harming the environment. “This is one of the goals of sustainable development. It is good that Belarusian industrial enterprises have been gradually expanding the line-up of electric vehicles. More than 80 electric buses are already used on city routes, and the number of electric vehicles on roads has been increasing. All this provides an opportunity to reduce harmful emissions, to strengthen environmental security and, just as importantly, to develop innovative manufactures that create the basis of the intellectual economy,” he noted.

Speaking about the E-Transport Day at the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone, Anatoly Isachenko stressed that it is a good event to showcase the latest electrical engineering developments. “Here you can see various types of electrical engineering - from modern electric buses to electric scooters. The topic is important and promising. The renewal of the vehicle fleet with highly efficient, safe and environmentally friendly equipment is important for sustainable development of our country,” he added.

Deputy Industry Minister Andrei Buinevich said that an electric vehicle is a larger concept compared to motor transport. According to him, it embraces an integrated infrastructure of charging stations, maintenance stations, and also specialists who we should train already today to develop this sector in the future.

“We see great prospects, first of all, in commercial transport. Minsk Automobile Plant will produce some 20 vehicles in the near future. Minsk Tractor Works has manufactured a prototype of an ice resurfacer which is currently being tested on the ice arenas of Minsk. About 25 such vehicles are planned to be produced in the near future,” the deputy minister said.

The E-Transport Day was held in the China-Belarus industrial park Great Stone on 15 July. The park hosted a demonstration area to showcase various models of electric transport - from electric buses and electric cars to electric motorcycles and electric pumps. The event was attended by representatives of MAZ, Belkommunmash, the United Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the instrument-making plant Optron, Belorusneft, Geely, resident companies of the Great Stone Industrial Park, Chengdu Xinzhu, and Greencars. The event was organized by the Energy Ministry of Belarus and the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park Great Stone.
