Uzbekistan ambassador talks on development of relations with Belarus

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Belarus takes a special place, while permanent contacts and dialogue at the level of the leaders of the two countries have been gradually taking bilateral relations onto a new level, Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Belarus Nasirjan Yusupov said in an interview with the Uzbekistan National News Agency, BelTA has learned.

The trade between the two countries significantly increased in 2018. “Uzbekistan's export of goods and services to Belarus increased by 1.5 times, compared to 2017. Mutual trade increased 2.5 times. The embassy is currently working on a number of projects that envisage direct investment in our country,” the diplomat said.

In his words, the Belarusian agricultural machinery is of high quality and productivity. It is in demand in Uzbekistan. “Together with large Belarusian companies we plan to implement joint projects in the production of a wide assortment of agricultural vehicles in Uzbekistan,” Nasirjan Yusupov said. The matter also concerns the development of cooperation in the areas such as cattle breeding, and dairy processing.

The diplomat highlighted the good opportunities for further cooperation with Belarus in education and healthcare. “Belarusian universities stand out among other universities in the CIS thanks to a higher level and quality of education. The embassy is working to establish regular cooperation in personnel training. Measures to assist enrollment of Uzbek students in Belarus' leading universities have been drawn up. Widely recognized is the expertise of Belarusian doctors in surgery, dentistry, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cancer. The embassy held talks with Belarusian partners on a qualifications enhancement program for Uzbek doctors in Belarus leading scientific and medical institutions,” the ambassador said.

Nasirjan Yusupov expressed the hope that in 2019 the cooperation with Belarus will gain powerful momentum and that the two countries will implement many mutually beneficial projects.
