Ukraine's refusal to import electricity leaves Belarusian power grid unaffected

MINSK, 8 July (BelTA) – Ukraine's refusal to import Belarusian electricity will not affect the operation of the Belarusian power grid, the press service of the Belarusian Energy Ministry told BelTA.

According to the source, not a lot of Belarusian electricity was exported to Ukraine in 2020 and 2021. However, Belarusian electricity was used to ensure the stable operation of Ukraine's power grid during unfavorable weather spells in the autumn-winter period.

The Energy Ministry stressed that the decision to restrict the import of Belarusian electricity creates certain risks primarily for Ukrainian consumers of electricity. “But as you can see, politics trumps economics in this case,” the source noted.
