Trade between Minsk Oblast, China up by a third in H1 2019

MINSK, 6 August (BelTA) – In H1 2019 Minsk Oblast saw its trade with China increase by more than a third, Minsk Oblast Vice Governor Nikolai Rogashchuk told the media, BelTA has learned.

“In H1 the trade between Minsk Oblast and China grew by 36% to total $800 million. Export skyrocketed by 64%, import rose by 20%. We are happy export is outpacing import. We supply mainly potassium salts and have recently started to export dairy and meat products to China,” Nikolai Rogashchuk said.

In Q1 2019, the region raised more than $70 million in foreign investments. Of them more than $37 millions were direct investments from China, with $17 millions on a net basis.

With regard to deliveries of Belarusian products, two container trains with dairy products have been sent to China this year. Work is underway to make up the third train of 41 cars, 1,000 tonnes of dairy products. “We make use of the trains that return to China from Europe via Belarus, mainly to export food. The volumes are not that big as we would like, but work is in progress. The trains transport products made in Minsk Oblast and also other regions. In general, China is a huge market that can consume almost everything that is manufactured in Minsk Oblast and even more,” the vice governor said.
