Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Plant about to sell sulfated bleached pulp on CIS market

MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) – Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Plant is getting ready to start selling sulfated bleached pulp via commodity exchanges in the CIS states, BelTA learned from the company's report to the management of the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom.

According to the source, the enterprise is busy tuning all the systems and manufacturing processes. Rather high quality parameters of the new product — sulfated bleached pulp — have been reached already.

The first few batches of sulfated bleached pulp have been sold on the home market. So far the company has sold 230 tonnes, with 1,750 tonnes left in stock. Preparations are underway to sell sulfated bleached pulp via stock exchanges in the CIS states. Future plans include sales to non-CIS states, primarily European Union countries.

According to Yuri Kruk, Director General of Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Plant, the company's proprietary power generators produce 100% more electricity than the manufacturing processes require. The spare electricity may become an additional source of revenue for the company.

The company CEO spoke at length about ecological issues, which had caused a massive public outcry. He noted that none of the water and air samples contained pollutants in excess of the legislated standards. Work is in progress to deal with unpleasant smells. The CEO also noted that representatives of the company and government agencies had met with local residents. The residents get all the necessary information about results of air and water samples testing and about the work of the enterprise.

Bellesbumprom Concern Chairman Yuri Nazarov instructed the Svetlogorsk Pulp and Board Plant CEO to keep an eye on the situation and update the superior organization as appropriate.
