Sustainable economic growth named Belarus' key priority in 2016-2020

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – The restoration and promotion of further sustainable economic growth as a foundation of the wellbeing of future generations should be a key priority for Belarus in 2016-2020, reads the resolution of the 5th Belarusian People's Congress, BelTA informs.

“To approve major guidelines of the social and economic development program for 2016-2020 and support its main priority, which is to raise the living standards of the population by promoting competitiveness of the economy, attracting investments, and accelerating innovative development,” reads the resolution.

“Higher efficiency of management at all levels which can be ensured through the optimization of functions of the state apparatus and the structure of state assets is a basic factor of economic progress in 2016-2020,” the document reads.

During the congress the delegates received about 150 concrete proposals. They pertain to the promotion of business initiatives, provision of loans to the real production sector, support of young workers, the efforts to increase the inflow of tourists, etc. The government has been instructed to finalize the draft social and economic development program for 2016-2020 taking into account the proposals of the Belarusian President and the delegates of the 5th Belarusian People's Congress.

The resolution also reads that the social and economic development program for 2011-2015 helped ensure political stability, sustainable economy, and social protection of the population. However, because of the negative external and internal factors not all the targets were hit. Therefore, it was needed to take comprehensive measures to overcome negative trends.

The resolution will be submitted to the President for consideration and making decisions.
