Sudan intends to allocate Belarus second site for gold mining

MINSK, 10 December (BelTA) - Sudan intends to allocate Belarus the second plot for gold mining near the Nile, Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Andrei Khudyk told the media ahead of the Belarusian-Sudanese summit talks in Minsk.

The site is located closer to the Nile River, and, according to the preliminary estimates, might be gold-bearing especially given the close proximity of water. The Sudanese side promised to allocate this site to Belarus in the near future,” Andrei Khudyk said.

In case of a positive decision by the Sudanese side the geological exploration will be conducted simultaneously on the first site, the minister said.

A Belarusian company has been registered in Sudan.

As for the prospects of using the gold, Andrei Khudyk said that Belarus is thoroughly studying the laws of Sudan. According to the preliminary data, after paying a 20% fee, the rest may be obtained into ownership. “Yet, it is too early to talk about any concrete terms,” he added.

The presidents of Belarus and Sudan met in Minsk on 10 December to discuss a wide range of Belarusian-Sudanese cooperation.
