State of Belarusian industrial enterprises, export outlined

MINSK, 27 August (BelTA) – Belarusian industrial enterprises are gradually increasing the volumes of production and export, BelTA learned from Belarusian Industry Minister Piotr Parkhomchik on 27 August.

According to the source, the Belarusian production sector operates as usual, all the assembly lines are busy, and orders are fulfilled on time. “The situation is changing for the better despite the problems that exist and the hindrances that stand in the way of normal operation of many enterprises. We see a gradual increase in the volumes of production and export,” Piotr Parkhomchik said.

Unique figures at Gomselmash

The industry minister noted that the Gomel-based company had dealt with a lot of complications but this year it is going to demonstrate unique figures, including sales of harvesters on the home market and abroad.

“We've finished fulfilling an order for Mogilev Oblast and Vitebsk Oblast. We made these harvesters within a short period of time – 230 harvesters over the course of only one month,” the official stated.

Gomselmash will export over 900 harvesters to Russia this year. As many as 651 harvesters have already been shipped. The Gomel-based company intends to sell 450-500 harvesters to Kazakhstan.

MTZ success in Africa

According to Piotr Parkhomchik, the Minsk-based tractor factory MTZ also demonstrates good export figures. The company has been particularly successful in Africa. About 1,000 various MTZ tractors will be shipped to Zimbabwe, Sudan, and other African countries this year.

Great accomplishment of BelAZ in India

Piotr Parkhomchik said that this night he came back from Russia's Kemerovo Oblast where the Belarusian heavy truck manufacturer BelAZ had opened the largest technical support center in Russia. Piotr Parkhomchik said the center will offer not only aftersales service and maintenance for haul trucks. It will demonstrate the best products of top Belarusian industrial enterprises.

BelAZ is about to finish fulfilling a major contract with India: the country will get 77 heavy dump trucks with the carrying capacity of 136 tonnes, the company has already shipped 56 trucks. BelAZ beat the American company Caterpillar to win the contract.

“We were unable to send a team of our specialists to India in order to assemble these trucks for quite some time. A compromise was reached in July and ten people are now in India. The first ten trucks have been assembled and handed over to the customer. I think we will assemble all the 77 dump trucks by the end of the year,” Piotr Parkhomchik said.

The other day BelAZ heard news it had won another tender to supply vehicles to India and now intends to ship 96 haul trucks with the carrying capacity of 220 tonnes to India. The sum of the contract exceeds $300 million. “It is a great victory, a lot of money, and an image-building event,” the industry minister noted.

Apart from that, the Zhodino-based manufacturer sees an opportunity for shipping a batch of vehicles to Algeria.

BMZ hopeful about prices

Piotr Parkhomchik added that they had heard alarming projections concerning the operation of the Belarusian steel mill BMZ: the market situation worsened noticeably in the last few years, global prices for many kinds of products dropped by 23-27%. “In other words, the company makes the same amount of metal but earns 23-27% less than it used to,” the industry minister explained.

However, positive dynamics emerged in summer: prices for metal products increased albeit by several percent. The steel mill started operating at full efficiency and now makes virtually all kinds of products it can make, the official said.

Simultaneously MAZ is busy designing new passenger transport models – buses, trolleybuses, electric buses.
