Stages of formation of EAEU electricity market detailed

MOSCOW, 22 June (BelTA) – A roadmap on establishing a common electricity market of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has been approved by the Advisory Committee on Energy of the Eurasian Economic Commission, BelTA has learned.

The Eurasian Economic Union's common electricity market is supposed to start working on 1 January 2025 at the latest. The action plan to establish the market was approved by the EAEU heads of state on 20 December 2019. The deadlines for passing regulatory acts to regulate the operation of the electricity market were specified.

Approved by the Advisory Committee on Energy, the roadmap specifies and details intermediate stages of formation of the common market. In order to optimize the sequence of steps required to set up the common electricity market, the experts deemed it necessary to determine intermediate stages of development and reconciliation of draft documents. With this in mind, the experts worked with the Eurasian Economic Commission to draft the roadmap, which specified the timeframe for the Advisory Committee's approval, regulatory impact evaluation, and turn-based discussion of every document by the union's bodies. All the sides backed the approval of this roadmap.

The Eurasian Economic Commission also stated that views of the sides on approaches to determining and distributing the throughput of interstate power lines had been brought closer to each other. Progress emerged that will allow experts to make headway into the development of the draft rules on determining and distributing the throughput capacity.
