Springtime sowing in full swing in Belarus

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) - The sowing of early cereal and leguminous crops (except for maize, buckwheat and millet) has got into full swing in Belarus, with 46.9% of the allocated areas planted, BelTA learned from the Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 3 April, some 406.500 hectares were planted with cereal and leguminous crops. The fieldwork in the southern regions had begun earlier. Gomel Oblast has already completed its early spring sowing campaign. Some 95.4% of areas have been sown in Brest Oblast, 61.3% in Grodno Oblast, 43.1% in Minsk Oblast, 36.7% in Mogilev Oblast and 4.75% in Vitebsk Oblast.

An estimated 866,600 hectares have been allocated for early cereal and leguminous crops in the country this year.

Spring sowing will be conducted on the area of more than 2.6 million hectares.
