Sleeping coaches made by Stadler Minsk arrive in Azerbaijan

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – Another ten sleeping coaches by Stadler have arrived in Azerbaijan. This batch was made by ZAO Stadler Minsk for ZAO Azerbaijan Railways, representatives of the Belarusian company told BelTA.

A contract for supplying a batch of sleeping coaches to Azerbaijan was signed in 2014. The first ten cars were made by the Swiss company Stadler and were delivered to the customer in late March 2019. It took about two weeks to deliver the product from Switzerland to Azerbaijan.

It took roughly the same amount of time to deliver the next ten sleeping coaches via Belarus, Russia, and Azerbaijan. The total length of the ten sleeping coaches when they are coupled is 264m. Stadler personnel, who stayed in the coaches during transit, could fully appreciate the level of comfort and the convenience of travelling by Stadler cars. They will have to take care of the last stage of dynamic launch in conditions of the customer's infrastructure.

The new sleeping coaches are meant to transport passengers along the route Baku (Azerbaijan) – Tbilisi (Georgia) – Kars (Turkey) – Istanbul (Turkey). They are designed to travel at 160kmph. The sleeping coaches come in five types.

ZAO Stadler Minsk noted that since 2014 Azerbaijan Railways has bought rolling stock from Stadler several times. In 2019 the Azerbaijani company ordered the first one-deck FLIRT trains, including four interregional diesel electric trains, three interregional electric trains, and three regional trains. The first trains will be delivered to Azerbaijan in 2022.
