Russia's agriculture minister calls for fulfilling 2019 supply agreements with Belarus

MINSK, 15 May (BelTA) – It is necessary to implement all the Belarus-Russia agreements on mutual supplies of agricultural products signed for 2019, Russia's Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev said at a joint board meeting of the agriculture ministries of Belarus and Russia on 15 May, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and Russia have a history of friendly relations and cooperation in all the fields. Agricultural industry is no exception. Russia and Belarus are consistently working to expand cooperation between their agricultural sectors. The trade in agricultural products and food between our countries is on the rise. Belarus is our biggest trading partner as far as the volume of trade is concerned. The trade in agricultural products between Russia and Belarus has been gaining momentum. The two countries compile demand and supply balance sheets in order to reconcile their interests as far as the trade in agricultural products is concerned. I believe we should fulfill the agreements on mutual supplies for 2019,” Dmitry Patrushev said.

He also drew attention to robust collaboration between research centers of Russia and Belarus in selection breeding, seed production and land improvement, as well as personnel training and exchange of scientific information.

The joint board meeting of the agriculture ministries of Belarus and Russia is taking place in Minsk on 15 May. The parties are discussing ways to promote mutual trade in agricultural products and foodstuffs, implementation of demand and supply balance sheets of the Union State in 2019, cooperation in veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance, implementation of the Union State programs.
