Russia grants quotas to Belarus for fishing in Barents Sea, Baltic Sea in 2020

MINSK, 26 February (BelTA) – Belarus has been granted quotas for extracting aquatic biological resources in Russia's exclusive economic zone in 2020, the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry told BelTA.

Belarus will be able to fish out 4,171 tonnes of cod, 1,664 tonnes of haddock, and 500 tonnes of northern shrimp in the Barents Sea as well as 100 tonnes of cod, 800 tonnes of anchovy, and 100 tonnes of Baltic herring in the Baltic Sea in 2020. The Belarusian side once again contacted Russia with a request to set the quota to 9,000 tonnes and specify the annual quota on extracting aquatic biological resources in the Barents Sea on a long-term basis.

The Russian side will consider the request and inform Belarus about the decision during the next session of the Belarusian-Russian commission on fish industry. The session is supposed to take place in Q4 2020.
