Russia, Belarus discuss resumption of Druzhba pipeline oil supplies

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – Belneftekhim Concern continues discussing the situation with Russian oil in Moscow, BelTA learned from the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim.

“Experts of Belneftekhim and its divisions are in Moscow to negotiate primarily technical issues of resuming the work of the Druzhba pipeline with Russian colleagues. The parties are working on the new production schedule to localize off-spec crude oil in the Druzhba pipeline and replace it with untainted oil to ensure further transit to all European destinations and also to the Naftan oil refinery,” Belneftekhim said.

Belneftekhim informed that following the talks between Belarus Vice Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak on 16 May and the meeting of European oil transporters in Bratislava the parties outlined the steps to clear the pipeline system in Belarus to ensure oil supply to Poland and Germany.

BelTA reported earlier that on 19 April Belneftekhim registered a massive decrease in the quality of the Russian oil mixture Urals flowing in transit into the main oil pipeline section operated by OAO Polotsktransneft Druzhba. The concentration of organic chloride in oil exceeded standard thresholds dozens of times over. The oil pipeline system Druzhba is designed to deliver oil to Belarusian oil refineries and transport oil to Europe in transit via Belarus in two directions – via Poland and via Ukraine.
