Rumas: Great Stone transforming into high-tech satellite town of Minsk

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) - The China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone is transforming into a high-tech satellite town of Minsk, Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Rumas said as he met with Deputy Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Shen Yueyue in Minsk on 3 April, BelTA has learned.

“Thanks to the joint work of specialists from Belarus and China, the park has already become a magnet for foreign investments, technologies and human resources. The park already has 43 resident companies, including those from the United States, the European Union, Israel, Canada and Russia. Therefore, we can describe this park as international,” Sergei Rumas said.

Zhejiang Province, the region where Shen Yueue hails from, is one of the most economically developed regions, home to the Alibaba Corporation headquarters. “Taking into account the rebranding of the Great Stone Park and its transformation into a high-tech science satellite town of Minsk, we would be happy to see a Zhejiang Province subpark and tech giants from your province in the park,” said the prime minister.

The prime minister also spoke about regional interaction which should spearhead China-Belarus economic relations. “We are counting on your assistance, taking into account your managerial experience in the city of Hangzhou,” Sergei Rumas added. He also suggested Hangzhou twin with one of Belarusian cities.

The meeting in the (government headquarters was held in the run-up to the 2nd Belt and Road forum in Beijing. The leaders of Belarus and China are expected to hold a meeting on the sidelines of the forum. Therefore the current visit of Deputy Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Shen Yueyue to Minsk is seen as a stage in the preparation for the summit.
