Preparations for Belarus-Pakistan science, technology cooperation commission session in progress

MINSK, 14 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan are getting ready for the third session of the joint science and technology cooperation commission, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Islamabad told BelTA.

The matter was discussed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Pakistan Andrei Yermolovich met with Pakistani Science and Technology Minister Muhammad Azam Khan Swati. The sides discussed measures to invigorate bilateral cooperation in the sphere of science and technology and the operation of the center established in 2016 to coordinate Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation in R&D and innovations. A group of Belarusian experts in agribusiness technologies are expected to visit Islamabad in December 2018 to put together a plan on cooperation in animal husbandry, crop farming, and veterinary medicine.

Apart from that, measures to step up Belarusian-Pakistani cooperation in agriculture were also discussed in Islamabad. The ambassador met with Pakistani National Food Security and Research Minister Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan. Positive dynamics in Belarus-Pakistan trade in agricultural products was mentioned. The importance of continuing manufacturing cooperation was emphasized.

The sides reached an agreement on exchanging visits of heads of the relevant ministries and on arranging the fifth session of the working group on agriculture in Minsk in early 2019. As other venues to discuss joint projects the sides chose the sixth session of the Belarus-Pakistan commission on trade and economic cooperation (due in Islamabad on 6-7 March 2019) and the Belarusian agribusiness week Belagro 2019 (due in Minsk on 4-9 June 2019). A delegation of Pakistani businessmen is expected to take an active part in the forum.
