Positive outlook on this year's harvest in Belarus

MINSK, 23 April (BelTA) – Belarusian farmers expect a good harvest despite the cold winter. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Subbotin made the statement during a presentation of a new grain seeder made by OAO Amkodor, the press service of the Belarusian government told BelTA.

The official said: “Not more than 3% of the winter crops has died. It is very good considering the winter was cold, just the kind of winter one would expect. The outlook on the harvest is positive for now. Staying on the agricultural technology schedule is the key.” He mentioned advantages of powerful agricultural machines, which allow farmers to complete work within an optimal timeframe.

The pneumatic grain seeder Amkodor Veras-12000 is going through field trials in agricultural enterprises in Dzerzhinsk District, Minsk Oblast. Aleksandr Subbotin underlined it is necessary to introduce such machines into the agricultural system. “The wide-span seeder allows processing large soil areas at a time, seeding crops within a specified timeframe, ensuring uniform sprouting and a good harvest. The more machines of this kind we have, the more effective Belarusian agriculture will be,” he believes.

With a span of 12 meters the seeder is designed to sow various crops, including cereals, leguminous, cruciferous crops, and grass. It can be attached to tractors with the engine capacity starting at 300hp. The seeder was designed bearing in mind cutting-edge land utilization technologies, including those that will be used in the future. Once the field trials are done, Amkodor will be able to provide Belarusian farmers with the new seeders as early as this year.
